OpenAI and Anthropic Give Their AI Courses Away. Microsoft Charges Billions to Walk Beside You. Both Are Right

Two opposite moves, one truth

Two things happened this month that look contradictory and are not. On one side, the owners of the most powerful models in the world decided to give education away: OpenAI launched its Academy with free courses on AI for work, and Anthropic already offers more than 20 certified courses, free, in its own academy. On the other side, Microsoft invested 2.5 billion dollars to create Frontier Company: a unit of roughly 6,000 engineers and specialists whose job is to embed inside client companies and implement AI with them, hands on.

Think about that for a second: some give the courses away, others charge billions for the accompaniment. And both are making the right call.

Same month, three plays
OpenAI Academy: free courses on applying AI at work, for everyone.
Price: $0
Anthropic Academy: more than 20 certified courses on Claude, agents and workflows.
Price: $0
Microsoft Frontier Company: ~6,000 experts embedded inside companies to implement AI with them.
Investment: $2.5 billion

Why they give the content away

Because content is no longer worth anything. It is everywhere: courses, videos, tutorials, documentation. When something is abundant its price trends to zero, and the smartest companies in the world understood it before anyone: give the content away to win the ecosystem.

What is scarce, and that is why Microsoft can charge billions for it, is something else: someone who sits with you, looks at YOUR operation, and executes the change at your side. If free content were enough, everyone who watches workout videos would be fit. The gym is full of people who know exactly what to do. The difference between knowing and achieving has always been a coach.

Knowing AI and executing with AI are not the same

Knowing AI
  • Finished three certified courses
  • Can explain what an agent is
  • Has 40 prompts saved somewhere
  • The operation looks exactly the same
Executing with AI
  • Has processes running today
  • Measures savings in hours and money
  • Knows what to delegate and what not to
  • The week itself changed shape

I wrote about it when Wall Street started measuring who executes: even the financial market understood that the decisive variable is how much the person in charge can do, not how much they can say. And I live it every week running my own companies with AI: the leap never came from one more course. It came from applying, failing with guidance, and correcting on real work.

What to do with this in your business

Does your team need more content or a coach?
1
Take the free courses. Seriously. OpenAI's and Anthropic's are good and they are the foundation. Do not pay for what the companies themselves give away.
2
Spot the sign that content is no longer enough. Licenses nobody uses, a "we tried it and it did not stick", or an owner who could not say what gets delegated and what does not. Another video will not fix that.
3
When it is time to train, train on YOUR work. Guided practice on your operation's real processes is what Microsoft sells to corporations. The same logic applies at your scale.

Which is why I am preparing something

That third point is exactly the work I do with companies: a practice that today invoices around 23,000 dollars a month across consulting, advisory and development. I say it with a number because that is the difference between teaching theory and teaching what pays my bills through execution. And I am taking it to a bigger scale: I am preparing an in-person workshop for business owners and teams who want to stop collecting courses and walk out with processes running. Guided practice, a real method, and limited seats by design.

The date is not open yet, but the waitlist already exists and gets priority on the first seats: join the waitlist here (the workshop will be held in Spanish). And if your need is urgent and corporate, let's talk directly.
